F1 challenge teaches children
A new generation of prospective precision engineering experts may have been created at a school which embraced the popularity of Formula 1 racing and manufacturing in the classroom.
Caerleon Comprehensive School in Wales showed their mettle as part of the F1 in Schools Challenge by winning an event which sets them up for the upcoming national competition in September in the project which aims to highlight the skills associated with the sport, the South Wales Argus reported.
Engineering, science, marketing and technology are major constituent parts of the scheme, with pupils at Caerleon using a CNC milling machine to produce their racing cars in two teams - the Flaming Phoenix and the Caerleon Chariots.
The Chariots came first after demonstrating their precision engineering know-how in front of teachers, parents and fellow students.
F1 in Schools aims to demonstrate how IT and CNC machining is linked to physics, aerodynamics, design, manufacture and marketing, highlighting a number of major skills which young people between the ages of nine and 19 can learn.
