Precision engineering students develop hip joints

Precision engineering students develop hip joints

A group of students specialising in precision engineering technology have visualised a new design for hip replacement joints, it has been reported.

The news follows the announcement that the pupils, who are part of the University of Huddersfield, have been granted £106,000 from Yorkshire Forward to support their research further, reports the Huddersfield Daily Examiner.

In order to overcome the wear and tear the average hip joint can go through, the research team produced a dimpled joint which can last much longer than the current offerings, in turn saving the NHS money in the long-run.

Hailing the new precision engineered product, the newspaper stated: "Huddersfield should be proud that students from the town's university look set to be our next generation of innovators in the field of science and engineering."

According to the institution, the University of Huddersfield is in the top ten providers of sandwich courses, which allow students to undertake a paid work placement in such industries as manufacturing.
