Universal face milling cutter released by LMT
LMT UK has announced the release of its latest universal face milling cutter - the MultiEdge Double 8.
The Coventry-based company stated the new tool for CNC milling machines is able to carry indexable s with 16 edges in order to carry out roughing and finishing cycles, meaning the product is able to allow high feed rates to be maintained but stock levels of s to be "significantly reduced".
LMT states that a recent trial showed that when face milling the joint faces of dies at 180m per minute and removing 60 cubic cm of stock material every minute, tool life increased by one-quarter, with the total number of cutting s usually needed reduced by half.
It added: "Due to the lower axial forces involved from the design of the , even when roughing, the surfaces created are extremely flat and smooth."
LMT's s match carbide grades LC225T, LC240T and LC610T, meaning it can be used with wet and dry milling as well as steel and cast iron.
With six major production centres across the world, LMT has facilities in Germany, Austria, France and the US.
