Apprentice wins award
A young lady from Tiverton has scooped an award after showing her skills in CNC machining to a national audience, it has been reported.
Katie Louise Webber, a 24-year-old apprentice with HepcoMotion in her home town, was the runner-up in the Final Year Apprentice category at the inaugural EEF Future Manufacturing Awards, in Bristol, the Mid Devon Star revealed.
Terry Slater, the south-west region director of the EEF, said that younger people such as Ms Webber are a credit to themselves while also giving praise to their employers and the CNC machining industry as a whole.
"Apprenticeships provide an excellent route into the world of work for young people and play a key role in developing the talent and skills that our manufacturing, engineering and technology-based companies require," he concluded.
The EEF is the manufacturers' organisation and aims to promote all facets of the industry including CNC machining and precision engineering, noting that manufacturing is responsible for 55 per cent of the UK's exports, regularly outpacing economic growth.
