iPhone App from Walter

Tooling giant Walter GB has announced a package of free iPhone Applications to provide users with remote access to comprehensive Walter tool data and cutting parameters, as well as online ordering, via mobile ‘phones.

Downloadable from the iTunes Store, the Walter Tool Scout and Tools & More smart ‘phone Apps allow users to log onto the Walter tool management database and, for example, access 2- and 3-D tool models. Users can also use the Apps to work out detailed cutting data calculations – for example, parameters for:

•Face, shoulder and ‌slot milling
•Hole making, including drilling and boring, and
•Turning (ISO turning and grooving).

The Apps will calculate torque, spindle power, machining volume, main cutting time, cutting force and chip thickness, taking into account material group, rake angle, machine efficiency and wear factors.

A savings calculator provides quick and easy cost comparisons between different tool solutions – comparing, for instance, costs for indexable s and bodies, machine setting and presetting times and spare machine capacity, as well as savings per component/batch/year.

Users can, in fact, access a comprehensive package of web-based applications, including Walter’s TEC + CCS software which can be used to identify the most economical solid carbide or HSS tool (boring, threading or milling) from the Walter brands, with accompanying cutting data and cost calculations.

The appropriate tools from the Walter, Walter Titex and Walter Prototyp ranges can then be simply ordered online via the Walter Toolshop.
